25 Years Of Planning…
I was watching the news yesterday about the “Rosetta” mission – a robotic probe landing on a comet 300 million miles away from earth.
It’s an amazing achievement and took 25 years to plan and execute, apparently. The probe was launched more than 10 years ago on 2nd March 2004, estimated cost 1 billion dollars.
I don’t mean to be a killjoy but ….4500 children a day die of drinking contaminated water, there are only 200 Siberian tigers left in the wild and there are still only 35% of women in senior management posts and less than half that figure on boards!
If the same focus and money had been spent on these areas over the last 25 years as has been spent on “Rosetta”, I hazard a guess that they would all be in better shape today.
Just shows what you can achieve though with a bit of passion and a vision. These are two qualities that are invaluable in today’s employees, along with resilience, a love of change, creativity and focus. But again passion and vision without direction can be costly (maybe 1 billion dollars?) and take you somewhere pretty pointless!
